A taste of Italy on the east side of Waterbury.

Since 1968, Cavallo's Deli has been serving up homemade flavors and treating its customers like family. It's that traditional Italian way that keeps people walking through the door of this third generation establishment.

Maria Fusco and Lena Hassinger, who admit to being self-taught cooks, own the deli.  It was opened by Fusco's grandfather (and Hassinger's great-grandfather). Now, the mother and daughter duo continue the tradition by using family recipes straight from Italy.

There are plenty of options on the menu to tickle your taste buds.  From daily dinner specials, slow simmered homemade sauce and meatballs to hand filled cannoli's, Cavallo's is a household name in the Brass City.

The signature item is the Italian combo grinder. It is packed full of mortadella, capicola, salami, provolone cheese and topped with all the fixings, including a dash of hot sauce that gives the towering sandwich a nice kick.

Located on East Main Street, Cavallo's is a cross between a deli and Italian import market. Once inside, you will notice the open kitchen resembles one that might be at grandma's house rather than at a restaurant, which gives it a nice homey feel.
