MIDDLEFIELD--It's one of America's oldest businesses, and now a local establishment is celebrating quite a birthday.

Lyman Orchards opened in 1741, or 275 years ago, as a 37-acre farm. The famous apple orchard, which also grows other fruits and vegetables and offers a golf course, is the 12th oldest family-run business in the United States. In fact, it's older than the United States itself!

In the 275 years the orchards has expanded exponentially, now covering more than 1,100 acres with apple, peach and berry trees, as well as pumpkin patches, corn mazes and more. It's a popular apple picking location, and the food market is a beloved weekend destination.
