NEW HAVEN--Public schools in New Haven have a lot to celebrate.

The end of another schools year, summer--and a drop in chronic absenteeism!

The district held an event recognizing the community for its efforts to help make sure students attend class, and nearly all the schools in the districts saw attendance gains. However, three schools in particular were noted for cutting chronic absenteeism in half.

"Kids are in school more often, they're learning, they're learning to read, they're learning to develop as young adults and they're going on to be successful in high school, and in college," said Superintendent Garth Harries.

Community engagement and after school programs are big factors that contributed to the improvement.
