PLAINFIELD–A tragic event in a Plainfield backyard left a 7-year-old dead Wednesday afternoon.
The child drowned in an above-ground pool in the backyard of a house on Glebas Street. The child’s parents discovered her and rushed her to the hospital, but she didn’t survive, according to police.
The girl has been identified as Isabella Costanzo, and she lived in the Glebas Street home.
Police say that the incident occurred when her parents left her playing in her room, and she subsequently wandered off. Her mother found her submerged in the pool.
The above-ground pool had an unsecured ladder from the ground into the pool. It did not have an audible alarm and self-closing gate, which are required by the town of Plainfield.
Police are investigating the tragedy further.
