HARTFORD — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has so far raised a fraction of the campaign cash that 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney solicited from Connecticut donors during his failed bid for the White House.

Federal Election Commission data show the New York businessman and former Greenwich resident has raised $45,293 in contributions from Connecticut residents. Romney had collected more than $9.8 million from residents by the end of the 2012 campaign.

Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, had raised $3.6 million from Connecticut donors as of May 31.

Trump has waved off criticism of his fundraising, saying he only began in earnest May 25. His successful primary bid was largely financed through personal loans. Trump made his first email pitch for contributions on Tuesday.
