Pedestrian struck, killed in Derby

DERBY — Derby police reported a man was killed after being struck by a car Thursday night.

The accident happened on Route 34 eastbound near Chapel Street in Derby shortly before midnight.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and but the victim died on the way to Yale-New Haven Hospital.  Police identified the victim as a 57 year-old man, but his name has not yet been released.

Route 34 was closed for around three hours but has since reopened.

According to police, after the preliminary investigation, the driver does not appear to be at fault.
