CROMWELL – A Cromwell man has been arrested after a shooting early Saturday morning.

Cromwell Police said that just before 12:30 a.m. they were notified by the Middletown Police Department of a gunshot wound victim at the Middlesex Hospital emergency room.

The victim, who was taken to the Hartford Hospital emergency room, said he had been shot in Cromwell.

The victim was shot in the left forearm, and was treated and later released.

Cromwell Police said they went to Fox Glenn apartments at of 123 West Street. They said they forced their way into apartment #414, due to concern that there could possibly be someone hurt or injured inside, and searched the apartment. No one was found inside police said they were confident that there were no imminent risks to the public.

Police identified James Simmons, 32, who lived in the apartment, as a suspect and he turned himself into the Cromwell Police Department.

He was arrested for first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct, and was held on a $50,000 bail.

Police said there is an ongoing investigation into the incident, but there is no clear understanding as to the circumstances involving the shooting.
