4-year-old boy drowns at Burr Pond in Torrington

TORRINGTON — A boy drowned Sunday afternoon at Burr Pond State Park in Torrington.

State Environmental Conservation Police said that at around 4:45 p.m. they responded to a report of an unconscious child in the swimming area of Burr Pond State Park in Torrington. There were lifeguards on duty at the time.

4-year old Edison Batista from the Bronx, New York, was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington and pronounced dead just after 6:30 p.m.

State Environmental Conservation Police said that they were assisted by the Torrington Police Department and Torrington Emergency Response.

Police said this is an ongoing investigation and that no further information is available at this time.
