NEW MILFORD - The Connecticut State Police bomb squad has cleared a New Milford residence, after finding no explosives there and no danger to the public.

New Milford Police responded to a condo complex at 30 Candlewood Lake Road in New Milford Sunday afternoon for reports of an armed man.

That led to a standoff. After about a half-hour, police said Kevin Mohan, 47, walked out of his condo with a gun and was threatening police officers.

The man was Tasered by Officer Charles Cochran and it is unclear if the suspect's gun went off before or after being hit. Mohan was subsequently arrested on cheaged of unlawfully discharging a firearm and breach of peace.  He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

The bullet grazed Cochrane in the lower leg. He was taken to New Milford Hospital, is in good spirits according to the New Milford Mayor David Gronbach. Cochrane is expected to recover and has been treated and released from the hospital.

Gronbach said Cochrane has been a New Milford police officer for two years and was a retired Hartford officer.

State Police said no shots were fired by New Milford police officers. State Police detectives continue to investigate what led to the stand-off and why the suspect fired his weapon.

They said the condo complex was evacuated by New Milford police for the safety of residents while the bomb squad was there and investigating.

At the request of the New Milford Chief of Police and the Danbury State's Attorneys Office, Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crime detectives will assume the investigation.
