HARTFORD — State troopers will be guarding courthouse perimeters in Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport and Waterbury for a second week over continued concerns about potential gang violence.

Troopers began providing extra security last Monday at the Judicial Branch's request in response to a planned June 16 gang shooting outside a Bridgeport courthouse that was foiled by city officers and judicial marshals.

The troopers will return to the courthouses Monday through Friday. Officials will decide late in the week whether to continue the outside patrols.

One trooper is being stationed outside each courthouse. The Judicial Branch is paying the $65 to $75 cost in overtime per trooper.

Judicial officials say sending in troopers is not related to budget cuts or the layoffs of more than 100 judicial marshals who provide courthouse security.
