DANBURY — A trial is set to begin for a former Danbury High School science teacher charged with having a sexual relationship with a student.
A Danbury Superior Court jury is scheduled to begin hearing evidence Tuesday in the trial of 25-year-old Kayla Mooney, who has pleaded not guilty to all the charges involving the 17-year-old boy.
She was charged in March 2015 with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and providing alcohol to a minor after an investigation into a complaint she made to school officials that she was being harassed by the boy’s girlfriend.
Police said the boy told them about the sexual relationship, and they confirmed parts of his story after obtaining emails between him and Mooney.
Mooney was fired in April for failing to maintain her certification.
