NEW HAVEN--A mother and son duo from New Haven is teaming up with the Red Cross to do some good down south.

Over the past several days, nearly two dozen people have died from severe floods that have overtaken parts of West Virginia. And more rain is expected; flash flood watches and warnings are in effect for parts of the state as of Monday evening after a brief break on Sunday and Monday from the downpours, which began last Thursday.

So, now there's a huge need for volunteers to come to West Virginia and help, and Missy and Ryan Lundeen are answering that call.

"I believe in helping people," Missy explained.

Ryan was inspired by his mom, who he said has "done a lot of volunteer work" in the past five years.

In October, FOX 61 spoke to Missy before she deployed to South Carolina to help that state when it was dealing with deadly floods.

Ryan first joined her in April, at the age of 17, when they went down to Louisiana, and now he's got the bug to help.

"I asked him if he wanted to come, and he said yes," Missy said of how Ryan decided to get involved. "I hope that he learns the joy that one can get out of giving somebody else a helping hand."
