NEW HAVEN -- Beachgoers arrived early at parks around the state, and some were already at capacity Monday morning.
The state DEEP tweeted Squantz Pond was at capacity and no new cars were being allowed in as of 8:15 a.m. Many people arrived early to Lighthouse Point Park in New Haven, hoping to get inside before the park reaches its max capacity as it did Saturday and Sunday.
Other parks that were at full parking capacity were:
- Black Rock State Park in Watertown
- Bigelow Hollow State Park in Union
- Burr Pond State Park in Torrington
- Gardiner Lake State Park in Salem
- Indian Well State Park in Shelton
- Kent Falls State Park in Kent
- Lighthouse Point in New Haven
- Mount Tom State Park in Litchfield
- Pattaconk Lake Recreation Area in Cockaponset State Forest
- Quaddick Lake State Park in Thompson
- Rocky Neck State Park in East Lyme
- Silver Sands State Park in Milford
- Wadsworth Falls State Park in Middletown
A line of cars were already in place in New Haven to get into Lighthouse Point by sunrise, many even before the sun came up.
Beachgoers said it was worth the early morning to make sure they got into the park and got prime real estate on the beach.
“Well waking up at 3 in the morning just to be on time I mean look at the line already it’s getting crazy here,” said Jose Pabon of Springfield, Mass.
Anashalie Lopez, of New Britain, said,“Yeah we work up at 3 in the morning and said it’s a really great day… saw the weather and everything and said it’s a really great day to go to the beach."
