MIDDLETOWN – State police said Monday that there have been 275 accidents since the start of the weekend at 12:01 a.m. Friday.

Police said they are patrolling the highways and roads in Connecticut this holiday weekend using both traditional and nontraditional patrol cars.

They are focusing on aggressive and reckless drivers, distracted drivers, speeders, seatbelt violators and intoxicated drivers.

Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols have been in place over the entire weekend, according to police.

The enforcement project started at 12:01 a.m. on Friday and will run through 11:59 p.m. on Monday.

The statistics below cover the time period starting at 12:01a.m. on Friday to 11 a.m. on Monday:

There have been 36 accidents with injuries out of the 275, with two fatalities, one on I-95 in East Haven on Saturday, and on I-95 in Westbrook on Sunday.

Police said there have been 36 DUI arrests, 1,013 speeding citations and 2,473 other hazardous moving violation tickets.

From July 3 – July 5 in 2015, there were 170 accidents, (48 with injuries with 2 fatalities), 33 DUI arrests, 859 speeding tickets, and 2,461 other hazardous moving violations.
