HARTFORD–Stop & Shop made a huge donation to Connecticut schools on Wednesday.

The supermarket giant announced that it would be donating $600,000 to 512 public and private schools throughout the state as part of its A+ School Rewards program.

The program works by having customers earn points with each purchase on their Stop & Shop loyalty card, and then choosing up to two local schools to reap the benefits of those points.

East Hampton High School was the top-earning school, getting $21,000! Other top-earning schools in the state include John F. Kennedy High School in Waterbury ($17,000), Fletcher W. Judson Elementary School in Watertown ($12,000), Catherine M. McGee Middle School in Berlin ($10,000) and Pomperaug Elementary School in Southbury ($9,500).

“We are proud to support more than 500 schools throughout Connecticut through our A+ Rewards program,” said Mark McGowan, president of Stop & Shop New England Division. “The participating schools use this money for computers, to fund field trips and to fill many other needs. Through this program, our customers are making a positive impact in the lives of students in the communities we serve.”

The program restarts again this fall.
