HARTFORD – A Hartford man was arrested Thursday and charged with using an invalid social security number and a number assigned to a New York man to illegally collect more than $62,000 in unemployment compensation benefits.
Jefry Antonio Chirinos-Alvarado, 29, of Hartford, was charged with two counts of first-degree larceny by defrauding a public community, one count of first-degree identity theftand two counts of felony unemployment compensation fraud.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Chirinos-Alvarado fraudulently collected over $60,000 in unemployment benefits between April 2010 and February 2016 when he was not legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Chirinos-Alvarado fraudulently collected approximately $33,867 in unemployment benefits using the social security number assigned to a New York man and another $28,413 using an invalid social security number.
Chirinos-Alvarado was arraigned in New Britain Superior Court and had bail set at $75,000.
His case was continued until Tuesday, July 26.
