BRANFORD–A road rage incident involving and off-duty police officer has led to a man’s arrest.

Around 9 p.m. on Thursday police say that an off-duty New Haven police officer called 911 to report that a man had pointed a handgun at him.

According to the off-duty officer, he was driving in Branford when the car behind him began blowing its horn and tailgaiting him. That car pulled up next to him at the intersection of East Main Street and Widnmill Hill Road and the driver pointed a small black handgun at him. Then the man drove off.

Branford Police found the suspect, Anthony Vigliotti, 29, of Branford, at his home. He had a .45 caliber handgun, which he has a valid permit for, but both the gun and permit were seized when he was arrested.

Vigliotti is charged with following to close with intent to harass, threatening in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and breach of peace in the second degree. He was released on a promise to appear in court on July 19.
