WALLINGFORD -- Wallingford Police officers didn't expect the awful news that five of their brothers in blue in Dallas would be targeted in an assassination on the streets; now, it was a Friday they will not soon forget.

A simple act from about two dozen residents in town helped the police officers get through their day. Mostly through word of mouth and Facebook, supporters began to show up at the PD headquarters just before noon, bringing blue and white flowers, baked goods, and plenty of hugs.

"It's a tough day, we are unfortunately reminded how dangerous our profession can be," Chief William Wright said. "We are so grateful for the support of our community coming."

Offering a bouquet of blue and white flowers, Wallingford's Tina Chatary said, "I feel so appreciative of our police department and we felt we needed to show them our condolences."

When the noon hour struck everyone observed a moment of silence. Just after, Pat Reynolds, a lifelong resident said, "This was a good cause, my father was a police officer here for a number of years so it kind of strikes home."

Before the well wishers disbursed, Chief Wright said, "I can't imagine the pain and grief they are experiencing in Dallas and we want them to know from little Wallingford, Connecticut, how we support them."
