WEST HAVEN -- Two people were injured when they were struck by lightning Thursday. Now, police in West Haven have released video of the moment it happened.
The man and woman were walking near Oak Street Beach when storms rolled through.
You can see the lightning strikes, knocking over a nearby tree and sending to the two people to the ground.
Both victims are expected to be okay. Police said they were not directly hit.
According to the National Weather Service, the odds of being hit by lightning are about 1 to 1.2 million; on average, less than 300 people per year are injured, and about 30 die.
