BRIDGEPORT – A former high school teacher was arrested for sexually assaulting a teenage boy, according to police.

On Wednesday morning, Bridgeport police with help from the United States Marshals Service, arrested former Harding High School teacher Robert-Seaga Johnson, 43, at his Park Terrace home.

He was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault, involving a 17-year-old male student at Harding. Police said the assault occurred in a classroom at the school in March of 2016.

Johnson, who is a native of Jamaica, and was an employed by Source4Teachers, a Cherry Hill, New Jersey-based company which contracts substitute teachers to the City of Bridgeport’s Board of Education. Johnson was a long-term substitute teacher at Harding.

Source4Teachers Vice President of Marketing, Owen Murphy, released the following statement:

Source4Teachers has been made aware that a substitute employed by the company, was formally charged with a crime following alleged actions while working as a substitute for Bridgeport Public Schools.  Given the nature of the allegations and our policy for dealing with such matters, the substitute has been terminated.

Source4Teachers hires only those employees who successfully meet the criteria laid out by the Connecticut State Department of Education, which includes state and federal background checks. This particular substitute’s background checks showed no previous history of any illegal or inappropriate actions. In addition, there had been no complaints or reported incidents involving this individual during his employment with us.

The safety of students is always our top priority. Source4Teachers has and will continue to work with the District and law enforcement to provide any necessary information or assistance they need to resolve this matter.
