Man dies in crawl space in Rocky Hill shopping center

ROCKY HILL - A rescue effort turned into a recovery effort after a man working got trapped in a crawl space at a shopping center in Rocky Hill.

Rocky Hill Police were called just before 3 p.m. for a person stuck in the crawl space at the shopping plaza on 80 Town Line Road.

According to the caller, the man was a contracted worker and was performing work while in the crawl space. The area where the person was located is between LensCrafters and Sally Beauty Supply.

This was originally a rescue effort but became a recovery operation once emergency crews determined that the victim was dead. The body was recovered.

Firefighters had to cut a hole in the back side of the building and work their way inside. The hole was cut in the top of the wall just underneath the ceiling.

Police aren't sure what exactly happened and are waiting on the state medical examiner. An investigation is ongoing.
