HARTFORD — A Connecticut appeals court has upheld the sentence and convictions for a Waterbury man found guilty for his role in the 2011 killing of a Bristol man.
The Republican-American reports that the state Appellate Court also rejected 25-year-old Michael Guerrera’s arguments that double jeopardy barred his possible retrial on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and unlawful restraint.
Guerrera was convicted in 2013 of charges including first-degree assault and tampering with evidence in the beating death of 19-year-old Dylan Sherman. Jurors deadlocked on the murder conspiracy and unlawful restraint charges. Guerrera was sentenced to 34 years in prison.
Guerrera’s brother, Dennis Guerrera, pleaded guilty to murder and received a 40-year sentence.
Authorities said the brothers killed Sherman because he was suspected of stealing money from a former girlfriend’s brother.
