HARTFORD - Law enforcement officials have released the recording of the 911 call that falsely reported a drowning at Burr Pond State Park in Torrington last week

They said they hope to get information to help them track down the person who made the call.

"Currently what we know about the phone is we were able to track down who it was registered to, and unfortunately it was lost and disconnected previous to the 911 call, so we're trying to find a needle in a haystack essentially for somebody who had access to dial 911 but no accountability to it," said Sgt. Tate Begly, of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Environmental Conservation Police.

They said the call came in to the Litchfield County Dispatch Center on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 6, and triggered a response by several police, fire, and search and rescue departments. The agencies searched the park and the waters before concluding that no drowning had taken place.

EnCon Police are leading the investigation into the false report.

Anyone who recognizes the voice on the call or has information about this incident is encouraged to call them at 860-424-3333
