NEW MILFORD-- Jay Criniti and Ryan Glover have taken their summer business to another level, courtesy of what is known as the "Shred Sled."

In everyday life, Criniti and Glover teach grade-school math in Plainville, but when class is over for the year, they run Ride the Hose Watersports at Candlewood Lake by Gerard's Waters Edge Marina.

And yes, they teach people to fly.

"The Shred Sled is basically a knee board that has the capability to fly," Glover explained. "It looks challenging but it's as easy as riding a bike."

The Shred Sled has a hose that is attached to a jet ski -- or personal watercraft. The powerful water stream is what sets the sled soaring.

"You can fly about 40 feet up," Criniti said. "You can do flips, you can do rolls, you can do spins."

Glover added, "Most people their first time out go about five or ten feet up, that's plenty."

Both teachers say that after a short lesson, riders can get up in the air.

Criniti said, "You feel like a superhero every time you're on it."

The Shred Sled is taking flight all summer by Gerard's Marina on Candlewood Lake in New Milford. An introductory ride costs $60 and, with the lesson, you will be out the water for about 30 minutes. Groups can also rent time on the sled. You must be 18 to fly.
