HARTFORD — Connecticut’s health insurance marketplace is taking steps to help its two remaining insurers remain “financially sustainable” in the state.

Access Health CT chief executive Jim Wadleigh said the organization plans to work with Anthem and ConnectiCare to find ways they can continue offering health plans through the state’s exchange. Early ideas include designing new plans and possibly narrowing networks.

The move comes after nonprofit health insurer HealthyCT was ordered by the Department of Insurance to stop writing new policies. The agency’s commissioner said the Consumer Oriented and Operated Plan or CO-OP, is financially “unstable.”

Both Anthem and ConnectiCare cover the bulk of individuals who receive health coverage through Access Health CT. Wadleigh says both assured him they plan to keep covering Connecticut patients for at least another year.
