BRISTOL – LifeStar was called to Bristol in response to a fatal motorcycle crash.

The crash happened on South Street at East Road at around 2:45 p.m. Friday. The road was closed for several hours afterward.

Road reopens after fatal motorcycle crash in Bristol

Police say a CWPM Waste Management truck was driving west on South Street, while a motorcycle was driving east on South Street. At the intersection with East Road the truck tried to turn left, but the two vehicles collided.

The motorcyclist, who has been identified as Raymond Smith, 49, of Wallingford; and his passenger, Allison Vandermaelan, 41, of Wallingford, suffered life-threatening injuries. Smith succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, and Vandermaelan remains in grave condition.

The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is investigating. If you witnessed the crash please call police at 860-584-3035.
