HAMDEN--Police in Hamden are on the lookout after one man committed two robberies in a short period of time on Friday evening.

robbery suspect 2Around 5 p.m. police responded to a shoplifting call at the Dollar General store located at 1926 State Street. The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic man in his 40s who was wearing a baseball hat. He tried to leave the store with items he didn't pay for, and told employees he had a gun and would shoot them if they didn't let him go.

As the suspect tried to escape, an employee cut the power to the sliding glass exit door, but the suspect used a metal shelf to break it and escape.

It was later learned that before the Dollar General incident, a man with the same description had pointed a gun "in the face" of a 9-year-old boy on Ridge Road. The man is said to have stolen the bicycle, which was later found outside the Dollar General.

If you recognize the man please call Detective Brian Stewart of the Hamden Police Department Detective Division at 203-230-4040.
