LEDYARD - New Haven boxer Jimmy Williams improved his undefeated record to 12-0-1 by defeating Antonio Fernandes at Foxwoods Casino Friday night.

Williams was fighting in the red trunks and hurt Fernandes early but just couldn't get the knockout punch that he was looking for.

Williams said after the fight that he was swinging too big for the knockout when he knew Fernandes was hurt.

The fight went the scheduled six rounds and Williams won by unanimous decision. Although he was happy with the win, he feels he learned a lot and needs to improve for his next time in the ring.
