NEW BRITAIN - Two arrest warrants have been issued after four people were injured in a shooting in the parking lot of a strip mall in New Britain early Sunday.

Police arrested Roberto Alicea, 24,  of Atwood Street of New Britain.  Alicea, who was already in police custody on a related weapon violation, was charged with one count each of criminal possession of a firearm and third-degree assault.  He is being held on a $125,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court in New Britain on Monday for arraignment.

Milton Figueroa, 26, of South Whiting Street in New Britain will be arrested for one count each of first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a firearm.  He is being held on $350,000 bail in a police hold at an area hospital.  The arrest warrant will be served upon his release from treatment.

Several police officers from multiple jurisdictions, including New Britain and Hartford, responded to reported gunfire at 5 a.m. in front of a business on 40 Martin Luther King Drive.

Police arrived and immediately began to cordon off a section of the Town Fair Tire parking lot with crime scene tape. State Police arrived on scene and assisted them while they established a perimeter and combed for evidence.

According to New Britain Police Captain Thomas Steck, three men were shot in their "lower extremities," while a fourth was assaulted with a melee weapon.

Police said all four victims were taken to a Hartford area hospital, where they were treated for non life threatening injuries and questioned.

Police also established a second crime scene a few blocks away from the Martin Luther King Drive shopping center. One of the shooting victims had managed to drive up the road a short distance in an attempt to get away but the man was forced to stop due to his injuries and was then picked up by an ambulance.
