HADDAM — A female victim was emergency airlifted to a local hospital after an early morning crash.
Police and EMS responded to reports of a single-vehicle accident at the corner of Beaver Meadow Road and Parker Hill Road at approximately 6 a.m. Saturday.
Crews descended onto the scene and discovered that a woman driving her SUV had accidentally careened off the road before slamming head-on into a tree.
Firefighters responded quickly with their extrication tools and began to cut through the side of the vehicle to rescue the unidentified woman.
After weighing the potential seriousness of her injuries, responders decided the victim should be airlifted to an area hospital. She was removed from the car and rushed atop a gurney to a nearby field, where the Lifestar helicopter was waiting.
Haddam Police detectives and traffic division teams are rebuilding the accident and removing the SUV from the scene. Their investigation is anticipated to last through much of Saturday.
