NORTH HAVEN - A bad storm that passed through North Haven Wednesday afternoon left some damage in its wake, and based on viewer videos and damage seen at the scene FOX 61 can confirm a tornado did occur.

The National Weather Service also confirmed that an E0 tornado occurred, with winds around 70 mph. It moved about 2.16 miles, and the path was about 150 feet wide.

"Wind damage occurred on a line from Quinnipiac Avenue near the Montowese section of North Haven east to Barberry Road. Locations of wind damage included Quinnipiac avenue, Village Street, Fitch Street, Governors Drive, Montowese Avenue by Cloudland, Montowese Avenue, and Nettleton Avenue. On village Street, an 8 by 10 foot shed was lifted about 15 feet up in a tree," the National Weather Services said.

Around 1:30 p.m. a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued for parts of New Haven and Middlesex counties as some strong thunderstorms rolled through. The North Haven Police Department reports that there were trees and power lines down and several homes were damaged in the Montowese section of town.

FOX 61 meteorologist Rachel Frank says that some rotation was detected on the radar around 1:30 p.m., but it wasn't clear if that had touched the ground. The videos above and the direction and type of damage at the scene indicate there was indeed a weak tornado.

The National Weather Services officials say they are in discussions with state officials determining whether or not they will send a crew out to investigate the damage.

No injuries were reported to the occupants of the home on Middletown Avenue seen on the left, according to the North Haven Fire Department.

The police department issued a warning on its Facebook page: "The North Haven Police Department will continue with high visibility patrols in the affected area. Although it is tempting to explore the affected neighborhoods, we ask that residents remain home for their safety, and the safety of emergency crews."
