Eversource restores power in Torrington after transformer hit by lightning

TORRINGTON–About 500 Eversource customers in Torrington lost power Wednesday morning during a storm, but power was restored to all customers by 1:30 p.m., an hour ahead of schedule.

According to Eversource, a transformer was hit by lightning, causing the outage. It started around 10:50 a.m. The transformer is located on Route 202, specifically near 451 East Main Street. Route 202 is closed as crews work on fixing the issue.

At the same time that crews were in Torrington, a power outage due to storms was reported in Ellington, where about 300 customers lost power. All of those customers have had their power restored as well.

The entire state will see scattered showers and thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, throughout the day Wednesday.
