AVON--Lord Stanley’s Cup has traveled all over the world, but on Thursday it made its first visit to a New England hockey hot spot: Avon Old Farms School.

The special visit was all thanks to 2007 grad and current Pittsburgh Penguin center Nick Bonino.

Close to 5,000 fans made their way through long lines in the gymnasium for a chance to shake hands and take a picture with the hockey champ and, of course, the fabled cup.

Nick was born in Hartford and grew up right down the road in Farmington where he began his high school hockey career before transferring to Avon Old Farms.
