SHELTON – A Shelton woman was arrested for her role in a deadly crash that killed another Shelton woman.

Police said that on Thursday,  Samantha Monaco, 23, of Shelton turned herself into police on an arrest warrant. Monaco was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle, and failure to drive right.

Police said the arrest stems from a May 6 crash when Monaco hit Rosemarie Dwyer, 69, of Shelton, head-on on River Road in Shelton. Police said Monaco was under the influence and was on her cell phone at the time of the crash. It was also determined that she crossed over into south bound lane of traffic, causing the head-on crash.

Monaco was released on a $25,000 bail and was given a court date of Thursday, August 25, at Derby Court.
