HARTFORD--Can you believe it's almost time for kids to go back to school?

School officially goes back into session on August 30 in Hartford, so to prepare kids CREC gave out 1,200 backpacks filled with school supplies on Thursday. The giveaway is meant to help those who struggle financially to give their children the tools they need.

The giveaway was teamed up with the second annual Back to School Block Party, featuring music, food, games and activities from the Hartford Youth Public Safety Program and the police and fire departments. Mayor Luke Bronin was in attendance as well.

Other highlights included the Ice Cream for a Dream truck, which we recently did a spotlight story on, and free haircuts for 50 kids.

The event is made possible by donations, good will and CREC's media partner, HOT 93.7. If you want to donate, click here.
