NEWTOWN -- Angela Fucsia Nissoli Fitzgerald is a member of the Italian Parliament whose constituents are Italian citizens living in North America. After a devastating 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck in the center of Italy Wednesday morning, Angela found herself stunned.

"I was talking to a friend of mine and her cousin was there and she said he died. It's like, you just feel the pain that other people are feeling so you want to try to help," said Angela. "I think we just have to pray now."

Angela is keeping in close contact with the U.S. Embassy in Rome, along with friends and family on the ground near the earthquake's epicenter through video chats and social media.

"It's frustrating because I would really like to be there and help, so I'm here if someone wants to find out, if there are some of their relatives, I can try to help them," she said. "For Italians, for us, we are so far away, I think it's even harder for us with the information you get because you can't get it right away so the pain is stronger."
