EAST WINDSOR–Police are issuing another warning after an East Windsor resident was scammed by two people impersonating utility workers.

On Wednesday, an elderly man who lives on Wapping Road, in the Broad Brook section of town, called police to report that two men had feigned being Eversource workers to gain access to his home.

The elderly victim said he let the two men in to “check equipment” in his house because they said they worked for Eversource. One of the suspects went with the victim to his basement while the other searched the house. The man searching the house came across a safe they asked the victim to open it. However, the victim said he didn’t know the combination and the suspects left.

The victim was not injured, and is still trying to determine if anything was stolen.

The suspects were both white men. One is described as about 5-foot-6, 150 to 160 pounds with missing front teeth. The other is described as under 6 feet tall, about 185 pounds and he spoke with some type of foreign accent.

Eversource is reminding customers that their employees carry identification and rarely ask for access to a house. They also rarely show up without a previously scheduled appointment.

If you don’t know if people are actually utility workers, call the utility company to check if they sent someone, and then call police.
