WICHITA, Kan. — A Kansas woman says someone sent her a letter complaining about her grandchildren — because they are black.
The handwritten letter was in Nancy Wirths’ mail and the letter writer said they were moving because of her bi-racial Caucasian/African-American grandkids.
The letter reads, “This neighborhood does not need any blacks in it.” It goes on to say they belong on the other side of the tracks, a sentiment that baffled Wirths.
Wirths filed a police report. None of her neighbors knows where the letter came from.
“I guess I never thought this was real: the hatred for people in the world,” she said. “I mean, because I try to teach my grandkids to love everyone, no matter their color, and this kind of throws a total wrench in that. This is just wrong and if it is a joke, this is not funny.”
Wirths said she went to the return address listed on the letter only to discover that home doesn’t exist.
“I can’t even fathom what I could have done to make somebody this mad,” Wirths said.
