HARTFORD -- A 13-year-old is dead after a car crash in Hartford Thursday morning.
The accident happened near Windsor Street and Pavilion Street around 3:20 a.m. The 13-year-old was driving a Subaru that was stolen out of Middletown, according to police. After the accident, the Subaru caught fire severely burning both teens inside.
The driver died at the scene and a 15-year-old passenger was taken to the burn unit at Bridgeport Hospital, police said.
The crash happened in the area of the Community Renewal Team offices on Windsor Street and Cross Country Automotive.
Deputy Chief Brian Foley said a second car was stolen from the same apartment complex, Carriage Crossing Condominiums, in Middletown. Nearby surveillance cameras show that second car dropping off the 15-year-old at St. Francis Hospital before speeding off. Hartford Police, working with the Middletown Police Department, recovered the second car, a new Honda Civic, Thursday afternoon in Middletown. No one was in it, and no arrests have been made.
