WINDSOR LOCKS--Friday was an emotional night for 65 Connecticut families.

The unit is commanded by Col. Vincent Vannoorbeeck, and has been in Kuwait and Afghanistan since October 2015 for rotary wing maintenance as part of NATO's Resolute Support Mission, a mission to train and advise troops in Afghanistan as part of our counter-terrorism efforts.

This marks only the second time since 2003, when Operation Iraqi Freedom began, that all Connecticut Army National Guard units are home in the United States.

One of the families who got to reunite was the McGugans. Cam McGugan missed his dad during his deployment, saying it felt more like two years than 10 months. But he was first in line to welcome his father home, and it just so happened his father, Staff Sgt. Brian McGugan, was first in the door!
