MARLBOROUGH — A 20-person crew from Connecticut is heading out West to help fight wildfires burning in several states.

The team is scheduled to leave Saturday for Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where they will join firefighting crews from other Eastern states. Members will then fly to Boise, Idaho, on Sunday to receive their firefighting assignment. It’s the first Connecticut firefighting crew to be sent out West this summer.

The Connecticut crew includes 14 local residents and firefighters and six workers with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. They’re scheduled to gather at the DEEP’s Eastern District headquarters in Marlborough on Saturday morning before heading to Pennsylvania.

The team will receive its assignment from the Great Basin Coordination Center, which is managing 11 fires burning on about 180,000 acres in Western states.
