FAIRFIELD - Dr. Rebecca Timlin-Scalera, a neuropsychologist, experienced a "reversal of fortune" that changed everything.
Results of a PET scan led her doctor to believe that the cancer had metastasized and spread to her bones. "He said the average [life expectancy] is 3 years," remembers this Fairfield mother of two kids, ages 7 and 11.
"Your future just evaporates."
But, miraculously, a follow-up test was clear. Timlin-Scalera fell to her knees, crying, "Thank God," before realizing other women in the doctor's waiting room couldn't celebrate the same news. She pledged to make a difference for those suffering from metastatic breast cancer, the most severe form of the disease.
