SECAUCUS, N.J. — WPIX -- A New Jersey Transit police officer is being hailed a hero after his quick-thinking saved a man from being run over by a train Friday.
Video released by NJ Transit shows a man lying on the train tracks at the Secaucus train station.
Officer Victor Ortiz is then seen pulling the man off the tracks, just moments before a train speeds by.
"Officer Ortiz’s selfless and heroic actions demonstrated a level of bravery and a true sense of compassion and purpose that often goes unrecognized but is ever present in our law enforcement community," read a statement from NJ Transit Sunday evening.
Ortiz has been with the department for 16 years.
