Hermine now updated to a hurricane, will hit Florida’s Gulf Coast Friday

MIAMI — Florida is hurricane alley again.

Hermine has now strengthened into a hurricane just hours before it slams into Florida‘s Gulf Coast tomorrow night. While wind gusts are a concern, storm surge and flooding rain will be a bigger issue with this storm.

Residents on the Gulf Coast of Florida could see up to 20 inches of rain.

Meanwhile, way out west, Hawaii’s hoping to dodge two bullets. Tropical Storm Madeline has weakened and passed to the south of the Big Island. But Hurricane Lester is still out and may whack the islands as a Category 1 hurricane in a few days. Luckily, computer models bring it just to the north of the island chain.
