NEW HAVEN -- The Elm City is filled with flavorful restaurants, and now it's adding a 'new' taste.

The Halal Guys is a twist on traditional Middle Eastern cuisine.

"It's nothing that you ever tasted before," quipped franchise owner Jack Yeung.  "I think when you try it you are gonna see for yourself."

Popular street fare in New York City, The Halal Guys will now serve up their hearty portions of chicken and gyro in the heart of the Elm City.

"To me, The Halal Guys is home," said Yeung.

A new home for owner and New York native Jack Yeung, who opens the Chapel Street doors Friday, Sept. 9th.

"Every time I go back and visit my family, The Halal Guys is a destination for me so it's really exciting to be able marry the two, Connecticut and The Halal Guys."

Cooked fresh and served with a smile, the chicken, gyro or falafel (which is a vegetarian option) comes with their famous white sauce but the ingredients are proprietary.

"It just has a great blend of spices but it's not just the sauce," Yeung said. "It's the combination of the chicken, the gyro, rice, lettuce and tomatoes, you mix them all together and it just creates a complete flavor profile."

And if you are brave enough, top it off with lip-tingling hot sauce that will make you sweat.

"There is a red sauce that is very, very spicy," laughed Yeung.  "It's explosive, that would be the word I would use to describe it."
