MIDDLETOWN – State police continue to patrol the highways and roads in Connecticut over the Labor Day weekend.

State police said they are focusing on drunken driving violations, aggressive drivers, distracted drivers and speeding. Sobriety checkpoints and targeted DUI patrols were also put in place over the entire weekend, according to state police.

State police said they have issued almost 3,000 moving violations so far and have arrested 31 people for DUI infractions.

State police said they have also issued 886 speeding tickets, 89 seatbelt violations and almost 2,000 other moving violations, including distracted driving.

Last year, state police said there were three deaths and they responded to 336 accidents. They also issued more than 6,000 moving violations last year, including almost 2,000 speeding tickets.

These State Police statistics cover the time period starting at midnight on Friday to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
