CLINTON - A gas station surveillance camera caught dramatic video of a crash on Thursday, September 1.

The crash happened at around 6 p.m. at a Shell station at 196 East Main Street when the driver of an SUV took evasive action and made a left-hand turn to avoid a parked white van.

The driver, Christopher Caterino, 64, of Greenfield, New York, hit the gas instead of the brake and then hit the front of the store.

Caterino was cited for reckless driving and police at the scene determined alcohol or drugs were not a contributing factor to this accident.

The video shows the SUV drive through the front door of the shop, pushing the clerk, Nirav Patel, 33, into the store and burying him in debris.

Patel, of Old Saybrook, suffered bruises and contusions but no broken bones and is now home recuperating. A full recovery is expected, according to police.
