MERIDEN–A city police captain has been placed on leave after allegedly misusing city funds for his personal benefit.
According to a source, which sent a copy of an official letter from the police department, Captain Patrick Gaynor Jr. was placed on leave effective September 2. He was asked to surrender his badge, police-issued firearm and Taser, and department-issued vehicle. He was also told not to enter the police department.
An investigation appears to be ongoing.
A source tells FOX 61 that this is related to a dispute over Gaynor’s wish to take a training class outside the department.
