NEW LONDON — An inmate who admitted to brutally beating his cellmate in Montville says he will try to kill the next person assigned to his cell.
Jay Hotchkiss was sentenced Wednesday in New London to four more years in prison for the July 2014 assault. He is serving a 17-year prison sentence for beating and stabbing his mother to death in 2006.
Authorities say Hotchkiss attacked his cellmate, Justice Law, after he was transferred from a correctional facility in Newtown to a Montville prison complex.
The Day reports that Hotchkiss stood with his attorney and insisted that getting a single prison cell was part of the deal he had accepted. He pleaded guilty this year in exchange for the sentence.
The judge says she will recommend that he be housed alone.
