Students who have an idea itching to be released to the world no longer have to wait to graduate, not if they attend the University of New Haven's Charger Start-up Weekend!
Students can sign up with an invention of their design, and then they will be assigned to teams that will work all weekend to get ready and pitch their ideas to real business and venture capital people for a chance to bring their ideas to life.
Two engineering students in the Tagliatela College of Engineering at the University of New Haven, Jonathan Spiegel and Matthew Sheehy, spoke to FOX 61 about their own ideas, and why they are excited for Charger Start-Up Weekend.
Spiegel is a mechanical engineering student and runs the program. One of his ideas includes the planning of a new building on campus to offer collaboration space.
Sheehy, a sophomore, won a scholarship last year in a different, but similar competition, for his design of a hovercraft.
The event will be held on the weekend of September 16, and students are expected to work overnight--literally all weekend long. About 100 students will participate. Mentors will work with the teams to help them develop their ideas and get them ready for business presentations.
